When it comes to Jerusalem, if there is one monument that comes to mind, it is the Western Wall. The quintessential symbol of Jerusalem brings together thousands of travelers and tourists who leave their wishes as traditionally required.

Let's know a little more about its history:

The Wailing Wall or Wailing Wall is the only remnant of the Second Temple in Jerusalem (516 BC to 70 AD) completed by Herod the Great, a holy site of Judaism 2000 years ago and from which it still traces remain. Titus's Roman army entered Jerusalem in AD 70, destroyed the temple, and razed the city to the ground. This is a moment that marks the beginning and the end of the history of Jerusalem. While Titus's idea was to leave the Western Wall to commemorate Rome's victory over the Jews, the Jews attributed it to part of God's promised protection of the Temple, which would symbolize his pact with the people.

Visit the Wailing Wall:

Entry to the plaza and the Wailing Wall is allowed for anyone of any religion. It should be emphasized that we must be respectful at all times since the Jews come to pray there.
I am very interested in this place especially because it has its history and I really like to know about it, in my case I would love to visit Israel, I have always liked to know and witness the history of God, in the case of the wailing wall that It is one of the places that I hope to visit on some occasion because it has many curious facts that arouse my curiosity, and yes, obviously I will share them with you.

It is incredible to know a new culture, so, how about we see the Curiosities that it has:

  • In the square of the wall there are three flags: the one of Israel, the one of the Israeli police and the one of the security forces that guard the wall. In a building in the square there are also six stars that form a word in Hebrew.
  • Once a piece of paper touches the wall, it becomes a sacred object and cannot be destroyed. Twice a year, all the papers are removed and buried on the Mount of Olives.
  • The Western Wall is not only the 60 meters visible. The actual length of the wall is 488 meters, which is covered by the facades of the Muslim quarter.

Some advices:

For people who are also interested like me in visiting the Wailing Wall in Jerusalem, it is necessary to pass a strict security check before accessing the main square.

Once at the Western Wall, it is important to respect the Jewish traditions that surround this holy place, as it is a place of pilgrimage and they have different customs.
